Specialist research becomes more useful when people can find it, explore the context and access it through one connected service. For the International Law Compliance Institute (ILCI), we built a platform that brings those steps together: searchable investment arbitration cases, a report library and integrated subscriptions.

The challenge went beyond putting research online. We needed to connect the reader experience, content management and commercial model in a product that could keep developing.

Start with the whole journey

Our starting point was the work the platform needed to support. How does a reader find a relevant case? What context belongs on the case page? How do they move into a report? And how does a subscription give them the right access?

We mapped those journeys together before treating them as separate screens. That shaped the scope: search, case records, reports, accounts and payments needed a shared foundation.

We approached the design in the same way. The interface carries ILCI’s existing visual identity into a research environment, using clear hierarchy and consistent patterns to help people move between information and documents.

One foundation for the product

We brought research, publishing and subscriber access into one platform. Readers can find a case and follow it through to the relevant report, while the team can keep the content current in one place.

We designed it so the service can develop over time: more research, new ways to explore it and a growing subscriber base, all within the same product.

Make the research easy to explore

Search supports case names, arbitrators and law firms, with filters to narrow the results. Individual case pages bring the relevant details together and connect them to the report library.

Reports can be read in the browser, with access tied to the subscriber’s licence. The journey stays connected as a reader moves between discovery, structured information and the longer research behind it.

Build payments into the experience

We integrated recurring payments and subscriptions for individuals and teams. Readers can subscribe and access the research through the same service.

For readers, that means access belongs to their account. For teams, the platform supports inviting colleagues and managing seats. For the organisation offering the service, it brings the commercial side and the product into one system.

We treated those connections as core product work. A research platform needs a clear path from discovering its value to subscribing and using it.

Lay the groundwork for what comes next

The platform gives ILCI a starting point for expanding the service as its research offering and audience grow.

That foundation creates room for broader research coverage and future AI-assisted search. Our approach to that work is to use the platform’s source material, keep answers connected to the evidence and make their limits clear.

From specialist knowledge to a connected service

Our contribution was to bring product design, software development and payment integration together around ILCI’s research. The result is a shared platform for discovering content, reading it and offering it through subscriptions.

That is Solution Engineering in practice: understand the complete journey, connect the underlying systems and leave a foundation for the next stage. We applied the same thinking to Tablena, connecting the steps from restaurant ordering to delivery.
